We join with people across America in celebrating Juneteenth, which commemorates a proclamation issued in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865, announcing the end of the Civil War, freeing the quarter-million slaves in that state and, essentially, marking the end of slavery in our nation. While we fully support this important celebration, as an asset manager we must remain open when the markets are operating in order to serve you—our clients. We have encouraged those of our people who are able to take the day off, and those whose responsibilities require them to work to set aside time—all in order to reflect on our collective past, take action against injustice, and consider the work that lies ahead to achieve the promise of true equality.
