In addition, Lord Abbett will host “Straight for Equality in the Workplace” ally training led by Jean-Marie Navetta, Director of Learning & Inclusion for PFLAG National, the nation’s first and largest organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) people, their families, and allies.
Later in June, Brian Bond, Executive Director of PFLAG National, will host a fireside chat at Lord Abbett with Jim Obergefell, the self-described accidental activist who was the plaintiff in the landmark U.S. Supreme Court marriage equality case. Obergefell will share the story of his role as caregiver for his partner of more than 20 years, who was nearing the end of his life due to ALS. An unexpected series of events led to their decision to marry, eventually taking Obergefell to the Supreme Court and the ground-breaking decision in Obergefell v. Hodges that resulted in victory for marriage equality. Obergefell is the co-author, with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Debbie Cenziper, of the book Love Wins: The Lovers and Lawyers Who Fought the Landmark case for Marriage Equality, which is being adapted into a feature film.
