Shining Light on LGBTQ+ Inclusion

JERSEY CITY, NJ – June 4, 2019 – Lord, Abbett & Co. LLC (“Lord Abbett”), an independent, privately held investment management firm is furthering its commitment to diversity and inclusion—within the organization and beyond—with a series of events that will take place during Pride Month.

Outlining the firm’s activities, James White, Head of Diversity & Inclusion, said, “Our Pride Month celebration at Lord Abbett, which highlights the 50th year anniversary of Stonewall, is a reflection of our values as a company in driving equality for the LGBTQ+ community and all underrepresented communities.”

Lord Abbett’s Pride Month activities kicked off in bold style as the firm illuminated its headquarters on the Jersey City waterfront in the colors of the rainbow pride flag on the night of June 3, 2019. The lights will continue to show Lord Abbett’s support for the LGBTQ+ community every night in June.

In addition, Lord Abbett will host “Straight for Equality in the Workplace” ally training led by Jean-Marie Navetta, Director of Learning & Inclusion for PFLAG National, the nation’s first and largest organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) people, their families, and allies.

Later in June, Brian Bond, Executive Director of PFLAG National, will host a fireside chat at Lord Abbett with Jim Obergefell, the self-described accidental activist who was the plaintiff in the landmark U.S. Supreme Court marriage equality case. Obergefell will share the story of his role as caregiver for his partner of more than 20 years, who was nearing the end of his life due to ALS. An unexpected series of events led to their decision to marry, eventually taking Obergefell to the Supreme Court and the ground-breaking decision in Obergefell v. Hodges that resulted in victory for marriage equality. Obergefell is the co-author, with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Debbie Cenziper, of the book Love Wins: The Lovers and Lawyers Who Fought the Landmark case for Marriage Equality, which is being adapted into a feature film.
