This Job Applicant Privacy Notice (“Notice”) describes how Lord, Abbett & Co. LLC and its subsidiaries and affiliates (collectively and each, “Lord Abbett,” “we”, “us”, “our”) collect, use, and otherwise process the personal data of job applicants, including through careers-lordabbett.icims.com. “Personal data” means any information that identifies you or that can be used along with other information to identify you. How do we collect personal data?

In addition to personal data you provide to us directly as part of the recruitment process, we may receive personal data about you from other sources, such as:

  • recruitment consultants;
  • publicly available information;
  • background check providers;
  • your references and prior employers; and/or
  • social media profiles.

We also may automatically collect information about your use of our job applicant portal or website through cookies and other tracking technologies, as disclosed in our U.S. Online Privacy Notice and Privacy Notice for Visitors from Outside the United States. You may update your cookie preferences at any time using our Cookie Settings.

What personal data do we collect and how do we use personal data?

We may collect and process the following types of personal data about job applicants:

  • contact details, such as name, postal address, phone number, email address;
  • demographic information, such as place of residence, citizenship, date of birth, gender;
  • information necessary to assess your employment candidacy, such as your resume or Curriculum Vitae, prior employment details, professional certifications or licenses, referral names and contact information, and any other information you choose to provide in your cover letter, application form, or during an interview;
  • information necessary for employee onboarding, such as passport information, national identification or tax identification number, work authorization, emergency contact, benefits administration information;
  • sensitive information, such as trade union membership, religious affiliation, race/ethnicity; and/or
  • other sensitive information that we obtain, as applicable, from credit reports, criminal background checks, and/or motor vehicle record searches.

We process your personal data according to the following legal bases:

  • where it is necessary to enter into an employment contract with you, including as a precontractual step;
  • where it is required for compliance with our legal obligation(s);
  • when we have your consent, which you may withdraw at any time by clicking here ; and/or
  • where processing your personal data is necessary for the purposes of our legitimate interests or those of a third party, specifically to prevent, detect or investigate fraud or other unlawful activity, to meet audit requirements, for information security purposes, and to otherwise operate out business where such interests are not overridden by job applicant data protection interests.

Lord Abbett may process job applicant personal data for the following purposes:

  • to manage and maintain application records;
  • for administrative purposes during the recruitment process;
  • to communicate with you about job or career opportunities about which you have inquired or which may suit your skills;
  • to assess your suitability and qualifications for open roles;
  • to ensure that our site and our services function in an effective manner for you;
  • to perform background checks and/or reference checks;
  • to enter into an employment contract with you;
  • to fulfil our legal obligations, such as the prevention, detection, or investigation of a crime, or fraud prevention;
  • to meet our internal and external audit requirements;
  • for information security purposes; and
  • for any other allowable purpose that we otherwise believe to be necessary or appropriate.

You are solely responsible for ensuring that the information you provide is accurate, complete, and current. We will take reasonable steps to ensure that other information about you that we collect and use is accurate and complete. You may contact us using the information in this Notice to correct any of your personal data at any time.

We will only use your personal data for the purposes for which we collected it, unless we reasonably believe that we need to use it for another reason that is compatible with the original purpose. If we need to process your personal data for incompatible purposes, we will provide you with additional information about that further processing whenever possible.

We acknowledge that some of your personal data is more sensitive and requires a higher level of protection. We will process special category, or sensitive, personal data only when required by our employment law obligations or when you freely choose to provide such information to us. For some roles, Lord Abbett may be required to gather information about criminal convictions and offenses.

What if you do not provide the personal data we request?

You are not under any statutory or contractual obligation to provide the data Lord Abbett requests during the recruitment process. However, if you do not provide certain mandatory information, we may not be able to assess your application appropriately or be able to offer you employment. We will notify you if this is the case.

How do we share personal data?

Job applicant personal data will be shared internally including with other entities in our group for the purposes of the recruitment process. This includes members of the Human Capital Management and recruitment team, interviewers, and potential managers. We also share job applicant personal data with our vendors where such information is relevant to the performance of their services.

Lord Abbett generally will not share your personal data with external third parties, unless your application for employment is successful, and we intend to make you a contingent offer of employment. Lord Abbett may then share your personal data with:

  • former employers and referrals, as needed to obtain references for you;
  • employment background check providers, as needed to obtain background checks; and/or
  • the Disclosure and Barring Service, as needed to obtain criminal records checks.

Lord Abbett may be required to disclose personal data in order to comply with the law, including to regulators and other public authorities. Whenever possible, Lord Abbett will notify you in advance of any such disclosure.

Does Lord Abbett transfer personal data across international borders?

Certain of our subsidiaries, affiliates, advisers, and vendors may be located outside your country of residence, including in the United States. For example, our Human Capital Management department is primarily based in the United States, and they ensure that the review and decision making with regards to our applicants are made by the appropriate personnel, who can appropriately assess your qualifications and credentials. It is also necessary to transfer your personal data for purposes of employee contracting and onboarding, as our payroll and benefits administrators are located in the United States. When we transfer personal data across international borders, we transfer the personal data to parties that provide appropriate safeguards for personal data in accordance with applicable law, including through the use of valid personal data transfer mechanisms, such as the European Union’s Standard Contractual Clauses. Security

We have put in place reasonable physical, electronic, and procedural controls to safeguard personal data. However, transmission via the Internet and online digital storage are not completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of your information collected through the application process.

How long do we keep personal data?

If your application for employment is unsuccessful, Lord Abbett will generally retain your personal data on file for one year after the end of the relevant recruitment process, unless we have a legal obligation to retain your personal data for longer. With your consent, we also will maintain your personal data on file for consideration for future employment opportunities. Please note that our recruitment system allows you to delete your personal data at any time. You may also reach out to us directly to exercise your rights related to your personal data.

If your application for employment is successful, personal data gathered during the recruitment process will be transferred to your personnel file. The periods for which your personal data will be held are explained in our Staff Privacy Notice and/or set out in our Records & Information Management Policy, which would both be provided to you following the commencement of employment.

What rights do you have with respect to your personal data?

Subject to applicable privacy and data protection laws you may have rights with respect to your personal data, including the rights to:

  • ask us to confirm whether we process your personal data;
  • request access to and request certain information about our processing of your personal data;
  • request correction, updating, or completion of your inaccurate, out of date, or incomplete personal data;
  • request the deletion, destruction, anonymization of your personal data or request to block the processing of your personal data;
  • request that we restrict our processing of your personal data;
  • object to our processing of your personal data
  • withdraw your consent to process your personal data in circumstances where our processing is based on your consent, or request details about consequences for not consenting to a processing activity; and
  • request a copy of and the transfer of your personal data to another party.
