Portfolio Breakdown

(as of 04/30/2013)
The Fund's portfolio is actively managed and is subject to change. "Other" may include municipal bonds and non-index holdings.

Credit Quality Distribution

(as of 04/30/2013)
Ratings (other than U.S. Treasury securities or securities issued or backed by U.S. agencies) provided by Standard & Poor's, Moody's, and Fitch. Where the rating agencies rate a security differently, Lord Abbett uses the median, but if there are only two ratings, the lower rating is used. Ratings range from AAA (highest) to D (lowest). Bonds rated BBB or above are considered investment grade. Credit ratings BB and below are lower-rated securities (junk bonds). High-yielding, non-investment-grade bonds (junk bonds) involve higher risks than investment-grade bonds. Adverse conditions may affect the issuer's ability to pay interest and principal on these securities. A portion of the portfolio's securities are not rated. The credit quality distribution breakdown is not an S&P credit rating or an opinion of S&P as to the credit worthiness of the portfolio.
Portfolio Positioning (as of 03/29/2013)
  • After reducing our position in the corporates and asset-backed securities (ABS) sectors during the first quarter of 2013, we remain poised to add back to credit sectors on weakness, as we continue to believe that corporate credit fundamentals are still favorable and investor demand for yield will be supportive of credit-sensitive securities.
  • We increased our position in Treasuries during the quarter, but continue to maintain an underweight in government-related sectors relative to the benchmark, the Barclays U.S. Aggregate Bond Index.
  • We reduced our allocation to agency mortgage-backed securities (MBS), but remain overweight the sector relative to the benchmark. The Federal Reserve remains committed to keeping rates low and continuing its policy of quantitative easing by purchasing agency MBS and Treasuries.
  • We remain overweight the commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS) sector relative to the benchmark and continue to look for opportunities to increase exposure to this sector, especially in lower-rated issues, including new-issue 'A' or 'BBB' bonds, as well as seasoned mezzanine classes.
The Fund's portfolio is actively managed and may change significantly over time.

The credit qualities of securities in the portfolio are assigned by a nationally recognized statistical rating organization (NRSRO), such as Standard & Poor's, Moody's, or Fitch, as an indication of an issuer's creditworthiness. Ratings range from 'AAA' (highest) to 'D' (lowest). Bonds rated 'BBB' or above are considered investment grade. Credit ratings 'BB' and below are lower-rated securities (junk bonds). High-yielding, non-investment-grade bonds (junk bonds) involve higher risks than investment-grade bonds. Adverse conditions may affect the issuer's ability to pay interest and principal on these securities.
